These flowers are the roses that Kevin gave me after a fight on our 9 months. They are beautiful, aren’t they? The life has withered out of them for five months. I forgot about them on my shelf at the very top. I took these photos because I find these flowers to be metaphorical. Just look at them, just look. They are stunning and so full of colour still. Like my relationship with Kevin, there is something beautiful about the end of it. Our relationship is gone, and like the flowers, can not be revived. The water in the vase, the key to life for the flowers, has evaporated like the passion that once surrounded my relationship with Kevin faded. Yet, the memories of us, like the colour of these flowers, lingers on for months afterwards. It is sad and dreary but remarkably peaceful.

The story: My name is Sydney Trendell. I’m head over heels in love with my horse Lightning. He has helped me through depression and so much more than that. I bought Lightning for myself when I was 14 years old. I paid for all expenses by myself, including lessons and showing. Unfortunately, when I left for university, I chose a school 3 provinces away. Lightning couldn’t follow me because I didn’t have the money. If I win this photography contest, I will receive $2000 to visit someone I love. I want to visit Lightning!
